Regine Reaps Awit Awards

Regine Velasquez has been blessed not just with son Nathaniel and a loving married life with Ogie Alcasid, but also creative success. Her songs and album earned nods at the 27^th Awit Awards held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resort’s World Manila, last December 12, 2014.

The 27th Awit Awards was held at the prestigious Newport Performing Arts Theater.

NATHANIEL earned Best Inspirational/Religious Recording and HELE NI INAY got Best Musical Arrangement (Arranger Homer Flores). Her album HULOG KA NG LANGIT was also awarded: Best Album Package (Graphic Designers: Jay Saturnino D. Lumboy, Anne Katte Piñera Photographer: Mark Nicdao). SIDE A meanwhile was given the Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award (Lifetime Achievement).

Regine said it was a true labor of love for her son. All the accolades were just icing on the cake, “Everything all the effort that I’ve put into my music is a means to thank God for the many blessings he has given the past several years. I’m just so thankful that he has given me Ogie a happy and healthy child in Nate. To be given awards for my gratitude to the Lord is really unexpected but appreciated.”

She adds that parenthood can be a source of inspiration, “Di ko na realize na being a mother can ignite all these feelings that can be a source for song ideas, melodies. It is true being a parent can change you. In this case it has helped me even become more creative as a musician. And not just me but Ogie as well.”

Regine also collaborated in the single TRIP SILIP with Gloc 9 who has earned 4 major trophies: Album of the year (LIHAM AT LIHIM), Song of the Year (MAGDA featuring Rico Blanco), Best Collaboration Performance (MAGDA featuring Rico Blanco) and Best Rap (MAGDA). He was also a featured artist in PAPEL written and performed by Joey Ayala who also won for Best Novelty Recording. Last year Gloc 9 also won Best Song (SIRENA) and Album of the Year (MAKATA).

Gloc 9 performed TRIP SILIP live on stage at the 27^th AWIT AWARDS with acoustic guitarist and singer Lira Bermudez. Gloc 9 congratulated Regine on her wins and was also thankful for her collaboration.

This live version he performed however, had its own style, “Nung na pakinggan namin siyang (Lira Bemudez) tumugtog at mag gitara at kumanta, sabi ko iba yon. Its one thing marunong ka maggitara. It’s another kung magaling ka talagang kumanta. Ang kasama ko sa song is Regine Velasquez Alcasid. Pero ibang flavor, ibang lasa kung si Lira kasama ko. With the acoustic approach doon sa kanta mas na raramdaman mo talaga e.”

For the album’s success Gloc credited the many artists he collaborated with, especially with the award won for MAGDA that featured rock star Rico Blanco, “Lagi ko sinasabi na ako ay tagahanga ng lahat ng nakaka collaborate ko. And definitely ako ay fan ni Rico Blanco. Nung sinimulan ko yung MAGDA kahit konting effort lang ni Rico siguradong may magandang ka lalabasan yung kanta. Na kita ko talaga nung na kita ko yung vocal files niya. Kung meron 20 tracks ng boses niya. Doon pa lang makita mo na yung effort na ginawa ng tao. Syempre yung tulong ng aking producer (Jonathan Ong) napa labas namin at na blend naming lahat. Sa totoo lang na record ko yung vocals sa ibang lugar. Inarrange yung kanta sa ibang studio at ni record ni Rico sa ibang lugar din. Nung pinagsama sama naming lahat everything fell into place.”

Upcoming rapper Abra was nominated in a few categories and won Music Video of the Year for the song ILUSYON. Although there was a very strong audience reaction in NPAT when Enchong Dee was doing his dance moves to Yeng Constantino’s music video CHINITO that was also nominated in the same category. Newly wed Yeng won both the I-Gateway Mobile Phil Most Downloaded Artist and Most Downloaded song of 2013 for CHINITO

The night had glittering performances from: Mark Mabasa & Friends, Pilita Corrales, KZ Tandingan, DJ Alvaro, Morisette Amon, Michael Pangilinan, Eurika, Bayang Barrios, Marion Aunor, Gino Padilla, Lloyd Umali, Manila Sound Project, Nina, The Voice Kids, Lira Bermudez & Gloc 9.
